Three Mexican children, two teenagers and a toddler, play a little soccer on the dirt streets of their neighborhood under the scorching sun. It's a hot, lazy afternoon so the playing is only half-hearted and light. The two teens are playing a casual game of keep-away from the young boy and mixing in some fĂștbol tricks. They are trying not to break a sweat, while the toddler expends more energy in his efforts. Dust from the street ascends into the air and drifts into the open doorways and tile floors within.
David Ralph is a contemporary artist and illustrator currently living in Maryland. David's style of painting and illustration can best be described as geometric abstraction with influences ranging from the cubist paintings of Pablo Picasso to the primitive, cutout shapes of Henri Matisse. Other notable influences for David were Paul Cezanne's fragmented landscapes and the geometrically-divided, flat-color canvases of Piet Mondrian.
