Description
This abstract, geometric watercolor painting of historic Ellicott City, Maryland, captures the charm and bustle of a small American town which came of age in the 19th century. As one of the first railroad stops from Baltimore along the old Baltimore & Ohio line, old Ellicott Mills (which it was then called) was founded by the three Ellicott brothers who lived across the river. Today, Main Street in historic Ellicott City, which curves uphill from the river and old railroad depot, is lined with boutique shops, art galleries, collectible establishments, antique stores, and restaurants. Folks from all around Maryland and the world come visit this timeless town for a stroll along Main Street. A step inside the Railroad Museum brings to mind the steam which filled the air at the railroad dept. Stones from a nearby quarry provided the materials for the building of the town while brick establishments with old-fashioned merchant signs popped up around the main avenue.
